Volunteer at Bergen New Bridge
The Volunteer Services Department supports the patients, long term care residents, visitors, and staff throughout the Medical Center.
Volunteers play an integral role in our mission to enhance community health and well-being by providing high-quality, compassionate care accessible to those in need.
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities spanning the wealth of services we provide our patients and residents throughout Long Term Care, Acute and Ambulatory Services, Behavioral Health Services, and Substance Use Disorder Treatment.

Commitment
The annual commitment for volunteers is a minimum of 60 hours. Volunteer shifts are typically three to four hours, and individuals are expected to maintain a weekly schedule with a minimum of one shift.
Requirements
- Fourteen years and older
- Vaccinations
- COVID-19 – 3 doses or no vaccine and wear a mask at all times while in the Medical Center
- Flu – during the season (October to April)
- Positive and personable attitude
Volunteer Assignments
We invite you to learn more about how to make a difference in the lives of our patients and long term care residents by becoming a volunteer. The list below outlines areas available for volunteer assignments with brief descriptions and the time ranges in which shifts are available:

Ambulatory Care Clinic – 8am to 4pm, weekdays
Assist Ambulatory Care staff with patient room turnover between appointments.

Behavioral Health Services – Geriatric Care - 8am to 5pm, 7 days a week
Assist BHS staff with preventing falls of our high-risk clients and engaging those clients with conversation and companionship.

Behavioral Health Services and Substance Use Disorder Treatment– 9 am to 5 pm, weekdays (must be a college student or older)
Observation and varying tasks depending on the unit.

Clerical Duties – 9 am to 5 pm, weekdays
Filing, charting, and data entry.

Concierge Services – 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week
Assist with greeting and screening patients and visitors entering the hospital at the main entrance.

Emergency Department – 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week
Assist the Emergency Department staff with transporting items to and from the lab and pharmacy.

Long Term Care – 9am to 8pm, seven days a week
Assist residents with daily activities and light chores, engage them in conversation, and support staff during recreation and mealtimes.

Operating Room – 8 am to 3 pm, weekdays
Assist with bed turnover, chart set-ups, and sitting with patients pre- and post-procedure.

Pastoral Care – Sundays from 1:45 pm to 4:15 pm
Assist with the transportation of residents to and from the chapel for services.

Therapeutic Recreational Therapy – 9 am to 5 pm, weekdays
Assist Recreational Therapists in engaging our residents with games, arts and other fun activities.
Process
- Complete and submit the required documentation through the links below.
- Phone call interview and assignment of orientation modules.
- Medical Clearance appointment (entails a blood draw).
- Set a schedule and start date.
Note: On average, the onboarding process takes 2-3 weeks from the time of your documentation submission.
