Bergen New Bridge Medical Center to Recognize National Donate Life Month
The Medical Center along with the NJ Sharing Network are highlighting the importance of organ donation
Bergen New Bridge Medical Center along with the NJ Sharing Network are recognizing the start of National Donate Life Month. The month-long observance reminds the community how important organ and tissue donation are and how to register as a donor. At the end of last year, the Medical Center’s acute care team facilitated a multi-organ donation for the first time in the Medical Center's history that saved the lives of several people.
“Working with our partner NJ Sharing Network, our compassionate team ensured the organ procurement and donation occurred respectfully and seamlessly,” said Deborah Visconi, President & CEO, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “Our staff lined the corridors during the Honor Walk to pay honor and show respect and gratitude for our donor and his family. While we mourned the loss of a precious life, we were grateful for the ultimate gift a person and their loved ones can give to others.”
The Medical Center raised a NJ Sharing Network Flag in the days immediately following the donation to honor the memory and generosity of the donor and their family.
Bergen New Bridge was recently recognized by the NJ Sharing Network with an award for exceeding organ transplant goals for 2023. Later this month, Visconi will deliver remarks as part of a “Connect to Purpose” presentation for the NJ Sharing Network’s all staff meeting. Her remarks will include the Medical Center’s experience in working with NJ Sharing Network to make a lifesaving donation possible.
There are currently more than 100,000 people on the national transplant waiting list, including nearly 4,000 people in New Jersey. To register to be an organ and tissue donor, click here. For more information about organ and tissue donation, call the NJ Sharing Network at 908.516.5400.
