Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Selected for Three NJBIZ 2023 Healthcare Heroes Awards

The Medical Center’s President & CEO was recognized along with its mental health care innovation and excellence in long term care

NJBIZ announced that Bergen New Bridge Medical Center was selected for three NJBIZ 2023 Healthcare Heroes Awards. The Medical Center’s President & CEO, Deborah Visconi, was recognized in the Healthcare Professionals category for her contributions to the hospital’s incredible transformation over the last five years.

“I’m honored to be recognized for the work we have done to transform Bergen New Bridge into a destination hospital that provides high-quality, compassionate care to all those we serve,” said Deborah Visconi, President & CEO, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “For more than 30 years, I have dedicated myself to the healthcare industry, serving in many roles, and I am honored to have that work make a difference to the diverse communities I have and continue to serve.”

Dr. Shahan Sibtain, Chief of Ambulatory Psychiatry, was selected for the NJBIZ 2023 Healthcare Heroes Innovation Award for his work with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for treatment-resistant depression and psychosis. Dr. Sibtain was an integral part of the development of an ambulatory ECT program, which allows patients to receive outpatient treatment as opposed to being admitted to the hospital.

"We are able to improve the quality of life for many patients through our ambulatory ECT program by easing the symptoms related to certain mental illnesses," said Dr. Shahan Sibtain. "I am grateful to be honored by NJBIZ for the important work myself and the behavioral health staff do every day to help members of our community."

The Medical Center’s Long Term Care Division was selected for an NJBIZ 2023 Healthcare Heroes Long Term Care Award. It is the largest licensed nursing home in New Jersey and accredited by the Joint Commission, which is something less than 6% of LTC facilities nationwide pursue. The Division was also named to Newsweek’s 20222 and 2023 Best Nursing Homes list.

“It is a privilege to accept this prestigious recognition on behalf of the Medical Center’s Long Term Care Division and the dedicated staff who work tirelessly each day taking care of our residents,” said Katie Richardson, Senior Vice President of Operations and Long Term Care Administrator. “This award is 100 percent a reflection of the compassionate and quality care every member of our team provides to our Long Term Care/Post-Acute Care residents to ensure they have the highest quality of life.”
