Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Hosts American Red Cross Flag Raising
Ceremony honors the important work done by volunteers and employees of the Red Cross
Bergen New Bridge Medical Center hosted a flag raising ceremony in honor of American Red Cross Month. First established 80 years ago in 1943, American Red Cross Month celebrates the incredible life-saving work of the organization that renders aid in times of crisis.
“As New Jersey’s largest hospital and a safety net facility providing access to quality healthcare for all and especially to those traditionally underserved, the Red Cross and the Medical Center’s missions align which is why it is a true privilege to host this event,” said Deborah Visconi, President & CEO, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “Red Cross volunteers are dedicated to ensuring humanitarian aid is available free of charge to those in need.”
“This month is about honoring our volunteers and we are proud that this tradition continues 80 years later because 90 percent of our current workforce are volunteers,” said Rosie Taravella, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross New Jersey. “These volunteers enable us to be active in every county in New Jersey, including Bergen County, where we are grateful for our partnerships with organizations like Bergen New Bridge.”
“The services provided by the Red Cross help people during times when they need help the most and in some cases, where they may have lost everything,” said James Tedesco, Bergen County Executive. “In these moments, the Red Cross comes in and is a savior to those needing help and support.”
“For nearly 142 years, the Red Cross has met disasters with compassion and care, and we celebrate the ordinary citizens who perform extraordinary acts of service,” said Bergen County Board of Commissioners Vice Chair Germaine Ortiz. “These volunteers are the real-life superheroes in our country because they step up to help in times of need.”
“The Red Cross is there for people in their darkest hour so it is a honor to be celebrating our partnerships and the powerful work we do together,” said Jackie Lue Raia, Board of Directors, American Red Cross Northern New Jersey. “No one organization could do this by themselves but together, we are unstoppable.”
