Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Inducted into Marquis Who’s Who Biographical Registry

Gian Varbaro, MD, MBA, was inducted into the 2023 registry

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Gian S. Varbaro, MD, MBA, has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who 2023 Registry. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.

Since 2018, Dr. Varbaro has excelled in the role of Chief Medical Officer at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center where his leadership has helped the institution develop into an award-winning, full-service destination hospital. In 2022, he accepted the appointment to Vice President of Ambulatory Services as well, securing his administrative presence with the Medical Center. He maintains responsibility for the entire medical staff and ensures that care quality and patient safety standards are met or exceeded. Moreover, Dr. Varbaro capably oversees non-clinical operations, including outpatient and offsite operations. 

Dr. Varbaro exercises his passion for teaching and mentoring through his role as an assistant professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he has been on faculty since 2018. Additionally, Dr. Varbaro is the Chief Medical Advisor and Medical Director for public health programs for Bergen County, since 2021. 

Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Varbaro treats patients as a practicing physician in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has an MD from the New York University School of Medicine. He also completed a residency in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University, and earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in leadership in healthcare from Yale School of Management. Additionally, Dr. Varbaro finished a Bachelor of Science in cell and molecular biology from Brown University, where he graduated magna cum laude. 

The first of his family to become a physician, Dr. Varbaro credits his parents’ assistance in providing him with rich opportunities for academic and professional advancement. He also remains grateful for what the field of medicine has offered in terms of ways to support his community, state and beyond as he continually dedicates effort to improving care levels and circumstances for patients through his sustained membership on the board of trustees of the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative. More broadly, Dr. Varbaro avidly pursues strategies to refine and renovate the healthcare system in the United States by advancing health equity, promoting the affordability of healthcare, and elevating the quality of care and outcomes.
