Preparing For Your Procedure

As a surgical patient of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, your care will be handled by our highly skilled team. This information will provide you information to prepare for your procedure and aftercare.

You will receive a call the day before your procedure instructing you what time to arrive at the hospital. If you do not receive a phone call by 3:30 p.m. the day prior, please call 201.967.4199.

You must have an adult who is available to drive you home after your procedure for your safety.

If you get a cold, fever, rash, or your medical condition has changed, please call 201.225.7130, and our answering service will triage your concern.

Check List
For the Morning of Your Procedure:
  • Wear comfortable clothes that can come on and off easily.
  • Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
  • Take your heart or blood pressure medications with a small sip of water before coming to your surgery unless advised otherwise by your nurse or doctor.
  • Bring a current list of medications you are taking.
  • Bring your insurance cards, driver license, or additional forms.
  • You must have a responsible adult drop you off and pick you up. No exceptions.
Arriving for Your Same-Day Procedure

On the day of the procedure, please make sure to bring an updated list of all medications and vitamins you take.

When you arrive at Same Day Surgery, you will sit with our Surgical Coordinator to review all of your registration and insurance information.

An identification bracelet will be placed on your arm to ensure proper identification during your procedure. Our team will escort you to the Pre-Operative area to meet your care team.

Pre-Operative Area

Before your procedure, your care team will give your a hospital gown and assigned a locker to place your clothes. For your comfort after surgery, please wear loose and comfortable clothing.

You will sit with the nursing staff, who will take your vitals, carry out any provider orders, and review your medications. You will also meet with an anesthesiologist.

Inside the Operating Room

You will meet the rest of your O.R. team, who will place any necessary monitors on you to prepare you for your procedure.

After Your Procedure

Your care team will take you back to the Recovery area of the Same Day Surgery. Once deemed ready, you may rejoin your family and friends.

When you have met the discharge criteria, your nurse will review your discharge instructions with you and your family or friend going home with you.

Within 72 hours after your procedure, the Same Day Surgery Department nurse will call. The nurse will ask how you are doing and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
