Stroke Care Services at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center

It is critically important to get a prompt diagnosis and treatment after a stroke. Early diagnosis increases the provider’s ability to potentially reduce stroke-related disability using clot-dissolving therapies called thrombolytics. This medication must be given through an IV within four and a half hours after experiencing stroke symptoms.

Healthcare providers with advanced training in treating strokes are an essential part of our stroke care team. Through advanced telehealth technology, stroke experts work with the Medical Center’s providers to make a diagnosis and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Members of the team can include a program manager, a clinical coordinator, vascular neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, emergency medicine providers and other staff.

If the team suspects a stroke has occurred, a CT scan will be done for diagnostic purposes. Stroke experts will then consult, reviewing a patient’s medical history and test results. The team will then develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Our Stroke Response Team includes an Emergency Department physician, a neurologist, and an Emergency Department nurse, all of whom have special training in caring for stroke patients.
